Our Behaviour Support Process

Restrictive Practices

If there are restrictive practices that are in place, an interim plan will be developed within 30 days and lodged with the NDIS Safeguards Commission. This is to identify and assess the level of risk for the participant.

Step 1: Referral and Intake

The journey begins with a referral. Contact us on enquiries@ybl.org.au to discuss your needs or request a referral form. Once a Service Agreement is signed, an intake session will be scheduled, and you’ll be matched with one of our skilled Behaviour Support Practitioners.

Step 2: Collaboration and Information Gathering

Our practitioners work closely with your support network—family, support workers, Support Coordinators, local GPs, and other key stakeholders—to gather a comprehensive understanding of behaviour patterns and goals. This collaborative approach ensures the plan is personalised and reflective of individual needs.

Step 3: Assessment And Understanding

We begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand the individual’s strengths, challenges, and the underlying factors driving behaviours of concern.

Step 4: Person-Centred Planning

The individual, their carers, and other key stakeholders are actively involved in the planning process. Together, we focus on goals, preferences, and specific support needs to create a truly person-centred plan.

Step 5: Drafting the Behaviour Support Plan

Using the information collected, we carefully analyse behaviour patterns and their underlying functions. A customised Behaviour Support Plan is then developed, detailing practical strategies to address behaviours of concern and foster positive change.

This process typically takes 3 to 6 months, allowing for thorough review and adjustments to ensure the plan is effective and sustainable.
